1. Our commitment

Railway Travel is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

We believe that access to travel information and booking services is a matter of equal opportunity, not a convenience feature. That belief informs both how we build this website and how we handle bookings on the telephone.

2. Conformance standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, neurological and learning disabilities.

We also seek to meet the expectations of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it applies to places of public accommodation.

3. Measures we have taken

Specific measures implemented on this website include:

  • Semantic HTML structure with correctly ordered heading levels on every page
  • A visible “skip to content” link at the start of every page
  • Text and background colour combinations tested for WCAG AA contrast ratios
  • Visible keyboard focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Full keyboard operability — no functionality requires a mouse
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images, and empty alt attributes on decorative ones
  • Form fields with persistent, programmatically associated labels rather than placeholder-only labels
  • ARIA roles and labels on dialogs, navigation and interactive controls
  • Respect for the prefers-reduced-motion setting, disabling animation for users who request it
  • Responsive layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide
  • Text that resizes to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second

4. Accessible booking by telephone

Our telephone reservations service is, by design, the most accessible way to book with us. A specialist can complete the entire process on your behalf, including arranging accessible accommodation, station assistance at every transfer point, service animal declarations and companion fares.

There is no additional charge for accessible bookings, and no part of our service is withheld from customers who book by phone rather than online. Call +1 (888) 821-4679 at any hour.

5. Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some limitations may remain. We are aware of the following and are working to address them:

  • Some third-party embedded content may not fully meet our accessibility standards; we are reviewing all such content
  • Images sourced from third-party stock libraries may occasionally have alternative text that is descriptive rather than contextual
  • Older archived content may not yet meet current standards; it is being reviewed on a rolling basis

6. Assessment and review

We assess the accessibility of this website through a combination of self-evaluation against the WCAG 2.1 AA checklist, automated testing tools, keyboard-only navigation testing and manual review. We review accessibility whenever significant changes are made to the site, and no less than annually.

7. Feedback — we want to hear from you

If you encounter any barrier on this website, or if you need information from this site in an alternative format, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as a priority.

8. Response timeframe

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within 2 business days and to provide a substantive response, including a remediation plan where a barrier is confirmed, within 10 business days. Where a fix will take longer, we will provide the information you need in an alternative format in the meantime.

9. Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact us to escalate the matter, and you retain the right to pursue any remedy available under the Americans with Disabilities Act or applicable state law.
